If you’ve never visited Local Resources, consider checking it out today — or the next time you’re searching for a way to do something like recycle your car or buy organic clothing. If it’s been a while since you scanned the Local Resources pages, come on back and see what’s new. Thanks to the recent Frenchtown Green Fair and a few reader suggestions, there are several exciting new listings.
What’s New in Recycler’s Toolkit
Here you’ll find two new entries that let you donate old vehicles for charitable purposes:
- Wheels for Wishes, http://midatlantic.wheelsforwishes.org, is the Midatlantic branch of the Make a Wish Foundation. The organization picks up donated vehicles, free of charge, auctions them off and uses the proceeds to fund wishes for children who are terminally ill. If a vehicle cannot be auctioned off, the organization will recycle it for parts.
- WXPN, http://www.wxpn.org, the listener-sponsored Philadelphia radio station, has a similar program. They too pick up used vehicles for free and auction them off. Proceeds benefit the radio station, helping keep it on the air.
AND, under “Donating”:
- Rolling Harvest Food Rescue, www.RollingHarvest.com, is a non-profit that’s found a terrific way to help address hunger in our communities. Their volunteers pick up surplus produce from local farms and donate it to food banks, senior centers and other organizations in need.
What’s New in Green Resources
With the addition of several shops and services, this page required a bit more organization. So you can now search for green products and services under category heads, such as Clothing, Toys or Coffee.
Among the new entries:
- Jasper and June: A Giving Boutique. www.jasperandjune.com. Located at 24 Bridge Street in Frenchtown, NJ, this shop features clothing and gifts that are sustainable in one way or many. Some items are “fair trade,” helping to create livelihoods for workers in developing nations. Others support worthy causes, such as ending human trafficking or helping HIV positive women and children in Africa. Still others are eco-conscious, not just in how they are made but also in the commitment of the manufacturers to partner with environmental organizations.
- Eco Dog Care, http://www.ecodogcare.com, sells green products for dogs.
